A mission of POLISH IMPORTERS visits PORTUGUESE WINE-GROWING areas through VINIPORTUGAL

Poland was the protagonist of the study trip organised in September by Viniportugal as part of the European programme “A Shared Passion”. Four wine importers from this country had the opportunity to get to know the winemaking reality of several Portuguese areas, in direct contact with the producers.

The trip started in the “Setúbal Peninsula”, where representatives of import companies such as Mondovino, CityWine, Warsaw Wine Company or WineOnline got to know not only its famous muscatel, but also the great variety of non-generous reds and whites available in this area.

Afterwards, the delegation moved on to other Designations of Origin such as Alentejo, Tejo and, finally, Lisbon, where they visited another seven wineries and tasted more than 100 references of Portuguese wines.

In addition, some of these visits were conducted with a host producer accompanied by guest producers, so importers were able to establish links with wineries from other areas not included in the trip, such as Vinhos Verdes and CVR Tejo carried out a joint presentation, in which eight of its wineries were present.

In this four-day tour, the Polish mission was able to see first-hand the high quality of all the processes of viticulture and oenology in Portugal, through visits to vineyards, wineries and bottling plants, as well as one-on-one talks with the producers themselves. All this, in the middle of the grape harvest: a crucial moment for the sector and one of the most representative for wine experts like them.
